The reason that a contract is better is that it will work out cheaper as you get so many free minutes and texts, you just need to make sure you choose a plan on which you think you will use all of the available minutes and texts. This is because if you don't use them they will be wasted, although some networks do allow you to carry over some minutes to the next month.

Another great thing about a contract is that you will get a free (or greatly reduced) mobile phone, this offers excellent value as these new mobile phones cost allot of money, often several hundred pounds if you buy them SIM free. You have to remember that if the Nokia phone costs £200 and you get it free then that's a huge saving, this makes paying the monthly fee allot easier as you have saved all of that money already. You can also get some great deals on the tariffs, it's common at the moment to get great savings on your contract deal with most networks offering either half price line rental or double minutes, again this comes down to how much you will use the phone.
